Why Hungary?

It is indeed a long and testing decision process, when one decides to buy properties in a foreign country. A myriad of factors present themselves for consideration: real estate prices, climate, location, economic situation and the friendly attitude of the locals to outsiders. The Hungarian people are renowned for their being friendly and welcoming. The year round climate is splendid. Hungary has been a full member of the European Union since 2004 and it is a member state of the Schengen area enjoying the advantages of it. The 77 km long lake, which lies in the centre of the Transdanubian Region and which is known for its opalescent yellowish green colour and softly moving water, is often called “The Hungarian Sea.” It is one of the most treasured natural sights and the most frequented holiday resorts of the country. It is the largest lake of Central-Europe with its area of 600 km2. Its shore is 195 km long and where the lake is the widest, the two shores are 14 km far from each other. At its deepest point it is 12.4 km deep. The temperature of the water is 20-26 °C during the summer, in the morning and in the evening it is even warmer than the air. The water and the soft muddy ground of the lake has healing qualities against neurotic problems and fatigue.

The lake offers great opportunities for pursuing water sports from early spring to late autumn and it is outstanding for sailing and windsurfing. Many fish types dwell in the water of the lake, which are very tasty. They can be caught fairly easily by anglers. The settlements around the lake are rich in sights and offer a great variety of programs for those, who are planning to spend their vacation in the region.

One of the most important and largest settlements on the shore of Lake Balaton is Keszthely, which is the commercial, economic and cultural centre of the West-Balaton region. There are lots of sights in Keszthely, amongst them the Baroque-style Festetics Palace, where there are several museums operated.

The thermal lake of Hévíz lies 6 km away from Keszthely, which is the most important natural thermal lake of Europe. It it the word’s second largest hot water thermal lake, covered with water lilies, is 36 m deep at its crater. Lake of Hévíz is known for its healing effect. In each second 420 l of 36 °C warm radioactive, sulphuric water erupts from the crater to the surface, that is rich in minerals and has an individual way of flowing. It is suitable for outdoor bathing even during the winter time. The mud covering the bottom of the lake has a special healing effect on locomotor disorders and rheumatic problems, inflamatory diseases and joint disorders. Its water covered by Indian purple water lilies has been used as a spa since 1795. There is a highly developed medical centre operated immediately next to the lake, in which the cures are conducted under the supervision of medical staff. With its civilized and friendly athmosphere Hévíz offers leisure, recreational and curing opportunities both for visitors and property owners living here permanently.

There are several other highly developed spas and thermal baths operated in the West-Transdanubian region.
The Hévíz-Balaton Airport is only 10 km away from Keszthely and Hévíz. The airport offers many international flights to the major cities of Europe. You can reach several European cities by direct flights from the airport in Sármellék. The destinations and number of flights are continuously increasing.

The capital of Hungary is Budapest. The Danube metropolis with 2 million inhabitants is the economic, cultural and traffic centre of Hungary, rich of sights and history.

The towns of Keszthely and Hévíz lie in the middle of Central-Europe. Many big cities are easy to reach on roads and on motorways, like Wienna, Milan, Graz, Liubliana, Zagreb, Bratislava, Prague, Belgrade, etc.
